Artists Spotlight

Here is where you can meet an artist that is featured at Indigo Lily Co! I've prepared a simple questionaire for the artist to fill out, and along with pictures and a bit of a story line, you'll get to know who they are quite well!

CONGRATS  TO

 Winter Artist of the Month!

1) What is your name and the name of your company? Where in CT  are you?The name of my company is Carissa Black.   That said, my etsy shop is called gardencris27.  When I joined etsy I didn't realize that whatever password you entered would be your shop name.  So yes, my etsy shop is named after a password.  I live in Monroe, CT.

2) What got you started? I have always enjoyed sewing.  I was a figure skater as a kid and used to design and sew all of my costumes.

 3) Did anyone or anything inspire you?I love beautiful fabrics.  I never buy a few yards of fabric with the intention of making one of everything out of it.  Some fabrics look like makeup bags to me, others might scream wallet.

4) What else do you like to do?I love hiking and camping.  I also love gardening.

 5) Do you like to shop? If so, where? I love Anthropologie.  I hate department stores unless I am with my mom who is the shopping queen.  I also really like grocery stores, weird, but true.

6) Whats a day in the life of Carissa Black like? Up at 6:30 to put the coffee on.  I answer emails and take care of any other "business" type things until 7:30 when I wake up my boys, 5 and 9.  The 5 year old is in afternoon kindergarten so he is my buddy until about 11:30.  I try to get as much sewing done between 11:30 and 4:00.   Once I get them settled in after school, back to the sewing room for as long as possible.  I usually call it a day around 9.  Now, on any given day, throw in soccer, PTO Secretary duties, making costumes for the school play, guitar lessons, religion, cub scouts, oh and trying to keep my house clean, Whew!!

 7) Ok, about your talents again- what make your things different from anyone else?? I like to think that I have a flair for putting fabrics together.  I also never cut corners with quality.  Customer service is hugely important to me as well.  I always stand behind my product and do everything I can to have happy customers.

 8) Do you do craft shows or fairs? I haven't done any craft shows or fairs as of yet.  I have been toying with the idea of a home show.

 9) Do you know if anyone famous has any of your creations? Any accolades you care to mention? Not that I know of, though that would be really cool.  I was featured in the newest Amy Butler software under the inspiration gallery and one of my bags was also in the June issue of Good Housekeeping magazine.  Just yesterday, one of my makeup bags aired on NBC Connecticut's Around Town with Rachel Raczka.

10) Where else other than Indigo Lily can someone find your things? You can find me at www.carissablack.com or my shop www.gardencris27.etsy.com

11) Anything else you would like to add? I always like to get in my little plug for organ donation awareness.  My 9 year old will need a liver transplant one day in the near future.  I am also a critical care nurse and see first hand how important organ donation is.  Please be sure that your family knows what your wishes are should something happen, just having it stated on your driver's license is not enough.  (Gets down off the soapbox:)

Thanks again, Carissa for becoming our featured artist!

You can find many of her really cool bags and accessories at Indigo Lily. She accepts custom orders as well, and we have a bunch of swatches to choose from! They fly off the shelves, so if you see one that you are in love with. DON'T WAIT...or else....
